Greasing the Delay Grain
On some of our motors, the instructions inform you to grease the paper casing of the delay grain before inserting it into the delay grain well. Please make sure that you use a very small amount of grease, just enough to put a thin coating around the paper casing of the delay grain.
Once the delay grain is inserted into the well, please carefully check that you can see the delay grain through the small hole of the ejection well and that there is no grease showing in the well. If there is, please remove the grease with a small pick else you could prevent the delay grain from igniting the BP in the ejection well.
Inserting the Delay Grain
When inserting the delay grain, please make sure it is fully pressed in so that it is in contact with the delay grain o-ring. You can check to see if is is fully inserted by looking through the small hole of the ejection well and seeing that the delay grain is close to the hole.
Keep it dry
Just ensure that all grains and paper liners are kept moisture free.
Q) Some of our motors are supplied with a DOM of 2003 and states a shelf life says 5 years.
A) We have to put a date on the product (part of the CE process) the date is a sell by date not an product expiry date.
Q) In the Assembly instructions (item 5) states high melting point and ref Dow 111.
A) The brand I have used for years (same pot) is Comma LM grease high melting point, its description states a multipurpose top quality lithium based grease with high temperature stability.
Q) Is it worth taking out, and re greasing, the two o-rings that are pre-fitted to the nozzle closure, and the single o-ring fitted into the delay closure?
A) The pre fitted ones have been greased but if you want to you can re-grease as for the delay O ring you should always grease them.
Q) Why do the instructions speak about the need to keep certain surfaces free of grease?
A) You need to keep the grease off the outer surface i.e. the area on the forward closure so that the round sticky white disc sticks to it.
Q) You mentioned something on site about a different way of inserting the igniters for F reloads, over G reloads. I cannot remember what you said, and it is not mentioned in the instructions. Can you remind me?
A) No problem, as the igniters are dipped the ends can be bigger than the nozzle hole, so prior to tightening the aft closure insert the igniters from the reverse side of the aft closure. XX Always remember that the igniters needs to be pushed all the way up the motor.
Q) Gun cleaner is mentioned in the instructions. Do we need it?
A) Gun cleaner does work very well but I have always used baby wipes, equally I am told WD40 works well but I have not used it.
